Occupy San Francisco: 1,000 people gather near the Justin Herman Plaza

Police have called on the protesters to leave Justin Herman Plaza, saying the camps pose a threat to public health. Five members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and other city and state officials were at a protest early this morning in support of the “Occupy SF” movement, as demonstrators anticipated police activity sometime this morning. After staging several buses, officers and departments, San Francisco police called off the raid shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday. San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr warned demonstrators in a letter Wednesday that they could face arrest for a variety of city laws against camping, cooking, urinating and littering in public parks if they continue their protest.

Some Occupy Oakland protesters tried to board BART trains to the Occupy San Francisco encampment, but they were blocked by police. Occupy Oakland was shut down yesterday morning in a 5 am attack that included rubber bullets, tear gas and flash grenades. (See videos here: Occupy Oakland)
