Women’s baseball star Paire-Davis dies at the age of 88

Paire-Davis, an inspiration for the movie “A League of Their Own,” died at the age of 88 on Saturday (February 2, 2013). The star of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League in the 1940s died of natural causes in Los Angeles and she is survived by two sons and a daughter. Paire-Davis, who was a model for the character played by Geena Davis, took part in the women’s baseball league in 1944 and played for 10 seasons. She helped her teams win five championships as a catcher and shortstop. Paire-Davis chronicled her baseball adventures in the 2009 book “Dirt in the Skirt.”
